Last Saturday my lady friend and I took a study break from Abnormal Psychology by going to her old high school with her younger sister to watch a high school play. I hadn’t watched a high school play since I was in high school so I began to feel old. Basically the play was about a mother who was put in a home for people with mental illnesses by her three corrupt and greedy children who were just after her fortune. How ironic…haha. Aside from the humor and main message from the play, one thing really stood out to me was when the main character said something along the lines of,
"There are many ways of saying ‘I love you’ without actually saying it. You just have to listen and pay attention. Even as something as simple as telling someone you care about to take an umbrella because it’s raining."
It wasn’t something new to me…but it was something important to be reminded about. You could say this about any kind of relationship, whether it be with a significant other, with your close friends, with your family, anything. Sometimes it can be hard saying those three little words in a relationship, or maybe your family never really says it out loud, or maybe the words get thrown around too much without really being thought about deeply. But at the end of the day, it’s how you show it and how much you’re willing to put effort into the feeling that is most important. How’s that for a psychological thought?
Ain’t nothing abnormal about this psychology.
